From the great shores of anno 1404, I welcome you to; Anno 2070
Before we start I just want to get this straight: its hard, at times it can be very hard, but that's strategy games for you, its supposed to be hard, some people don't understand that, and now that we have that clear, lets move on:
Lets get to some basic details:
Anno has 3 «factions»
Ecos (eco friendly people that eat healthy food and takes care of the environment, slow growth curve but is the most stable faction in my opinion)
Tycoons (The opposite, they love junk food and unhealthy stuff, they have a rapid growth curve but is very unstable as they burn trough a lot of resources quickly)
And in the middle we have the techs, they are like the people that live in the middle, they are not really a «faction» in my opinion anyways, you use these guys to research stuff and make some high end equipment like the hydroelectric dam and so on.
The setting is of course in the year 2070, so expect everything to be “high-tech” not that this is a bad thing.
Expect a lot of reading, even though the game is helpful you have got to read the text that pops up most of the times.
Also expect a high learning curve, the game can seem hard at times but when you finally get the hang of it, it gets easier; the game will never be “über easy” but it will eventually get much easier than the first few hours
Its a time sink, if you sometime decide to start up a continuous map, if you want to “finish” it, expect to put AT LEAST 50 hours into it.
Now for the actual review and my personal thoughts about the game:
Anno 2070, where to begin.
Its a fairly long and challenging game for the people that are not big anno fans, I myself started my journey at anno 2070 and so far it has been an great adventure, and according to my steam account, I have clocked just about 100 hours on it, its should be noted that about 50 of those hours is just 1 continuous map, yes you heard me, 1. An example of an eco city, the monument (the largest structure) takes just about 3 hours to build alone (real hours here folks, 3 actual hours you are online in the game).
But what really makes this game special is the atmosphere, to make it simple, its just beautiful, it really sets the tone when you can zoom in on your city and its full of life, little hovercars flying around, people walking the streets, see up close and personal the amazing machines of your empire working, as said, it clearly sets the tone
But now for the verdict, here I will pull out the positive and negative sides of the game and give it a rating from 1-100.
Positive:
Absolutely stunning graphics,
great gameplay
Lots to do, many different gamemodes to explore, from the campaign, to the continuous mode and the more challenging single missions.
Negative:
High learning curve : some people might enjoy this, me? Not so much
Lots of reading : also as said above, whatever floats your boat
Final verdict: 7.5/10
As some last words I would say that anno 2070 is an overall amazing game, the only thing you really have to prepare for if you are not an active anno player is; prepare for lots and lots of text, there is no way around reading most of it.
This has been my Anno 2070 review, until next time!
